What does a Homeowners Insurance Policy cover?Individual homeowner policies vary. However, 80% of homeowners policies are based on a standard form, and all homeowners policies cover two very important areas: Property and Liability. Your policy may also cover you for additional living expenses should you be unable to live in your home for a period of time, due to a covered loss. Many homeowners policies cover the dwelling for "most causes of loss" unless specifically excluded. What about floods, earthquakes and other catastrophes? Most Catastrophes are covered. For example, wind damage from hurricanes or tornadoes is covered as a windstorm peril. Flood Damage is not covered by the homeowners policy. Your property may be eligible for a flood policy written through the National Flood Insurance Program. Earthquake Damage is not covered, but for an additional charge, can be endorsed onto your homeowners policy. Click here for a no obligation Homeowners quote.
